Abstract
Diabetes is pregnancy causes high prenatal morbidity and mortality and a multitude of complications and diseases in the newborn infant. These include spontaneous abortion, stillbirth, macrosomia, congenital malformations, hypoglycemia, respiratory distress syndrome, hypocalcemia, hyperbilirubinemia and erythema. Appropriate treatment of the maternal diabetes during pregnancy and even before conception reduces the rate of these anomalies; otherwise an early diagnosis and treatment of the anomalies should be conducted.
