Prevalence of non-classic congenital adrenal hyperplasia in Shiraz
Abstract
In a cross-sectional study of non-classic type of congenital adrenal hyperplasia due to 21-hydroxylase deficiency (NC-21OHD) among high school girls (14-18 y) in Shiraz the prevalence of NC-21OHD was estimated 0.25%, 2.1% of them being heterozygotes. Although the frequency of the disease is lower than in other cucausisn ethnic groups (1%), it is suggested that NC-21OHD should be considered in the differential diagnosis of hirsutism, sever acne and menstrual disturbances. In this study we utilized the early morning salivary 17-hydroxy progesterone determination, which proved to be a useful non-invasive screening test
