A study of mothers' knowledge and practice concerning the infestation with Oxyures and its related factors

Abstract


In a descriptive-analytic cross sectional study, mothers' knowledge and practice about the infestation of Oxyures and its related factors were investigated. The subjects consisted of 150 mothers randomly selected from the rural area of Zaman-abad, a district of Shahre Ray located 50 kilometers south of Tehran. Appropriate statistical tests, t test and analysis of variance, showed a significant relationship between mothers' knowledge and nationality (P<0.009) and economic status from Behvarz (Rural health attendant) point of view (P<0.05). There was a significant relation between mothers' practice and economic status (P<0.02), nationality (P<0.0006), fathers' education (P<0.05) and the existence of a person with high level of education in family (p<0.02). The results of this study indicated that levels of mothers' knowledge and practice about Oxyuriasis in the mentioned district were average to poor
